Bygone Grays Thurrock. Pictures from the Last Century.

A History of a Thameside town.

Grays is situated in the Borough of Thurrock. The Urban District of Thurrock was created in 1936 and covers an area of around 36 square miles with the River Thames to the south, London to the west and Basildon to the east.

My present site has been running since December 2002, and many people have sent me information, notably, Mr. Gino Reeve who emigrated from Grays to Australia, for the  photograph of his father who worked as an usher for the Regal Cinema and his recollections of the Old High Street, Mr. Ross Bannister for his information on the Old High Street, Mr. Brian Dickens, Orsett Hospital, Angela and Peter Nash of British Colombia, Canada for the great picture of his mother and aunt on their way to church taken in the "new" High Street in 1914. Also Mrs. Anne Sentance who took the picture some years ago of North Stifford Church to which I have applied a snow animation. Thank you very much to everyone and to those who have  taken the trouble to write in my guestbook. Among my latest additions is a video clip in Windows Media Format, The 1953 Thames Floods. I hope you find my website informative and interesting.

Best Wishes and hoping to hear from you via my guestbook.
